Congratulations To One Of My Downline: Embossed Brad

I am sending this card out to one of my downline that has just promoted to Senior Associate (Yea!!) and I just had to use the embossed brad technique. I did this recently in a class and just loved the look of the Wild Wasabi Embossing Powder with the Antique brads. I think it gives it an antique jade look.


Check out the close up below to get a better look at the embossed brad. Isn't it gogeous and it is such an easy rubber stamping technique that can give such a "wow" look. You can color your brads with any colored Embossin' Powder.

When Is The Last Day To Order From The Current Catalog?

It amazing how fast time flies by! Many have asked which day is the last day to order from the current catalog and the time line is a bit different this year.

• The last day to order retiring stamps is June 3rd.
• The last day to order retiring accessories is June 3rd. (While supplies last)
• The last day to order from the Spring Mini-Catalog is May 31st.

You can begin ordering from the new 2013-2014 Friday, May 31st at noon (Mountain Standard Time)

There is a little overlap in the ordering options this year. The 2013-2014 Stampin' Up! catalog will be posted on June 1st.

I Didn't Realize I Would Miss It So Much?

I keep thinking that I will pull out the new paper from the 2013-2014 catalog, but I keep pulling out my favorite items that are retiring.The Fan Fair Designer Series Paper is one of my favorites and you can get it at a discount right now. You can say this card is a mix of new and old because I used the Fan Fair paper with a retiring set, one set that is staying, and a brand new hostess set. The round image is from retiring Artistic Etchings, the stamps from the Postage Due set is currently available and move into the new catalog, and the sentiment is part of a new hostess set.

Do You Make Wedding Cards To Have On Hand?

It's wedding season in our area. We had one wedding to attend last night and will have another one next weekend so I looked through my wedding cards and realized that I don't have many on hand. So I will have to make a few wedding cards so I have some ready to go.

I used new In-Colors for this combinations. The flowers from Everything Eleanor are done in Coastal Cabana, the Mr. & Mrs. is inked with Strawberry Slush, and the brown background is Baked Brown Sugar.

The background is embossed with the Elegant Lines embossing folder which is retiring with this catalog and discounted right now. It would be a great time to pick it up. It is wonderful to add to elegant cards like a wedding card.

Celebrating Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It's time to remember those brave men and women that have given their lives for our country. This time of year is such a transition time from winter to summer, school ending, and the feeling of change and it is easy to just enjoy the long weekend without thinking of the reason for it. Take time to remember those that have given their lives in the service of our country.

 

I used the retiring Crosses of Hope stamp set to make this card. I layered the three pieces of card stock cut with one of the Window Framelits and cut them all at once so they would fit together.

Did you notice the sneak peek of the embossing in the background? That is one of the new embossing folders that will come out in the new catalog.

Have a wonderful memorial day weekend! At some point this weekend I want to get out and start prepping and getting the garden going. We will not be able to plant anything yet because there are still frost warnings, but summer will come some day.

Do You Like Getting Together To Stamp? Learn?

I had the most wonderful Stampin' Up! workshop last weekend with a great group of ladies. Life gets so busy and it is fun when I can take time out to stamp with others that love stamping too. I always ask the hostess what she would like to see or learn and then incorporate into the workshop the best I can. This hostess wanted to see heat embossing and to use the Big Shot so I created this card to show both.

The "Oh, Hello" on this card is heat embossed with the Early Espresso embossing powder and VersaMark. My sample doesn't show it, but I also taught them how to tape over the "Oh,"  when they ink the stamp so they could just stamp the word "Hello". Stamping tip: Just don't forget to remove the tape or you get an icky mark on you stamping.

She also asked to use the Big Shot, well that is not hard because I LOVE THE BIG SHOT. Do you see the line of embossing just below the Designer Series Paper? It is such a nice addition to this card because it adds such a delicate and subtle detail to the card. I used one of the Needlepoint Embossing Folders for this line of embossing.

I Love The Idea Of It, But Do I Love It?

Last week I was having a conversation with my daughter's violin teacher and we came to the conclusion that my daughter loves the idea of playing the violin, but doesn't always love playing it. Now, she is 13 and I remember from taking piano lessons as a kid that practicing is not always fun. I am sure you are wondering what this has to do with stamping and I am going to tell you. The conversation came back to me as I was thinking about crafting home decor items. Do I like the idea of (or buying) making items for home decor, but not love making them?  I decided I am going to make it a goal to use my (overflowing) craft stash. Now is the time!

I have a box of Mason or canning jars in my craft closet because there are so many cute Mason Jar Crafts out there. I have used a few, but I still have many left. These jars were colored by swirling paint in side the jar and then turning them over to drip dry.  Wouldn't these jars be so cute on a picnic table this summer?

Didn't these tags decorated with the (retiring) Mouthwatering Set turn out so cute? Perfect for holding silverware, flowers or some other decoration. This entire post and project was inspired by a jar from a paper crafting magazine.

The little "Summer" image is from a retired stamp set, but I couldn't resist using it because it fit this project so perfectly. I will let you in on a little secret, I actually colored these jars for Christmas and placed pine branches and berries in them with a ribbon tied around the neck of the jar. Isn't it great how red and white jars can be changed from Christmas to a summer occasion.

I started with a general summer craft project and then I think I will move into 4th of July because it will be here before we know it. It may not warm up for summer, but the 4th and its celebrations will come anyway.

Using My Color Spritzer Tool With Sneak Peek Set

Doesn't the spritzing done with the Color Spritzer tool (which is retiring) add a lot to this card? I used a Calypso Coral marker to add the coordinating color spritz to the background. The butterfly from the Itty Bitties stamp set stamped in Pool Party is perfect for this card.

The washi tape used in the background is from the Epic Day This and That line and is perfect for the background. The Washi tape was available as part of a special, but is still available because it will be in the new catalog. I love the washi tape and can't wait to find more ways to use it in my projects.

The "You make me smile" is from the set A Round Array and is available as part of a bundle special right now with the 7/8" Scalloped Circle punch.

Saying Goodbye To The Color Spritzer Tool

I was surprised to see the Color Spritzer Tool on the retiring accessories list. It is one of those tools that when I remember to use it, I love the results.

I used the tool to make the red spritz on the background of the Oh, Whale card. Tip: I recently discovered that if you do a lot of spritzing in one setting, it helps to move the marker so you have a fresh area to spray through. It does not ruin the marker, but you just need some time for the ink to flow back into the area of the nib that was used. This made a big difference.
